Learning about quidditch can be intimidating. We hope this will get you started on your way!
So, how do you fly?
Quidditch is a co-ed contact sport, combining rugby, dodgeball, and tag. Seven athletes on each team play with brooms between their legs at all times, and while we don't technically fly, we do run, jump, tackle, and score. While the game can appear chaotic, once you are familiar with the basic rules, quidditch is an exciting sport to watch and even more exciting to play. For kids, we call it "kidditch" and minimize contact but most of the other rules remain the same, and it's a lot of fun.
We are working toward establishing a local league, and we are members of Quidditch Canada. We plan to have a full competitive League Level team in 2018.

Wait, you mean you actually play quidditch here?

Central Alberta Quidditch started in July 2013 as a community quidditch team. We grew from only a few athletes to now have athletes aged 8 to ... well, over 30 years old, plus coaches, referees, and snitches.
We pride ourselves on being very innovative. We ran the first regular youth program in Canada. We also started wheelchair quidditch in Canada. And of course, there's that time we played quidditch in Sylvan Lake!
We are also the first quidditch club registered as a non-profit society in Canada. If you would like a copy of our incorporation documents for some inspiration, please email us.

How do I get involved?

We are always looking for new ways to share this sport.
If you're a teacher looking for a visit to your classroom or a corporation looking for a completely different team-building exercise, please contact us and we'll see if we can set something up with you.
If you're a business or individual who would like to sponsor the club or one of our events, we'd love to hear from you, too!

I'm starting a team. Can you help?
There is a lot of advice and expertise out there on how to start your own quidditch team. Quidditch Canada has an entire Expansion section dedicated just to helping with that (expansion@quidditchcanada.com or membership@quidditchcanada.com).
Adding to their resources, we are also the first registered non-profit quidditch club in Canada (as far as we can tell), and are very willing to share our Alberta-based incorporation documents with anyone who they might help. Just email us and ask!

Where can I find you?
That's great, but who are you?
We're a registered non-profit society dedicated to sharing quidditch (and a healthy love of literature!) to the people of Central Alberta. We run adult, youth, and wheelchair programs. We also participate in a lot of special events, including tournaments, conventions, trade shows, school outreach, and camps!
